WE ARE LOOKING FOR (HIDDEN) CSR CHAMPIONS!

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reflects us all. It’s even more of a major topic for customers, business partners, employees and applicants; your potential future talents. Some years ago there was one big claim: money made the difference. Nowadays, this is no longer the sole focus. It’s the way of doing business. It’s the way of doing something for its sustainable value. Value for the society, for the environment, for all our future. Next to creative and innovative business ideas, your CSR activities can make a big difference. Show us your way of implementing business ethics and sustainability in your business and let’s discover the hidden CSR nuggets.

What is in for you? There are multiple benefits:

  • Discover and reflect the impact of CSR for your business.
  • Get ideas from other organizations of different industries and different fields of business.
  • There are no hidden costs; just your time investment.
  • Share your thoughts, and do something special, which is the core idea of CSR.

„Thinking Business Ethics“ – A German project in New York

Business ethics is on everyone's lips. And it is time not only to talk about it, but also to act. Business ethics and sustainability are inseparable. What more and more private people are paying attention to on this planet can also penetrate the business world in the same way: Ethical and sustainable action.

With the new generation, a new value system is emerging. This generation is fully aware that each of our actions has direct or indirect consequences. And since previous and current leaders have often overlooked the long-term consequences, their actions have often been at the expense of the next generation. This new generation, however, refuses to take over the full extent of the debt left by their predecessors. They are screaming for a stop, so that also their descendants can still find a life worth living on this planet.

Generation Y is a self-confident and responsible generation that is now beginning its careers. They are beginning to climb middle management, and will likely replace many top leaders in the next decade. This generation is now taking Master's courses like this one from MMA and FH Vienna.

In one course of the MBA training there is the task to develop, organize and accomplish a foreign project. The main topic is "Business Ethics". The purpose of this exercise is to conduct interviews and discussions about business ethics with companies in a foreign city and to document these discussions. This work will be graded and included in the final grade of the MBA of Management & Communication. The students have to organize the whole project independently and self-determined, from the choice of the travel location to the grading system of their project.

The task comprises the following points:

  • Choice of travel location
  • Selection of the project management system
  • Choice of documentation system
  • Budgeting and financing of the project
  • Travel organization
  • Creation of a cultural programme
  • Company research
  • Creation of a list of questions
  • Travel arrangements and interviews
  • Analysis of interviews and questionnaires
  • Reporting, including summary
  • Documentation of the entire project
  • Development of a grading system

The MBA 14 of MMA | FH Wien

We are a group of highly motivated MBA students at the University of Applied Sciences Vienna and the Munich Marketing Academy. Within our curricular studies we are organizing a foreign module with a focus on business ethics and sustainability, which has a high impact on our exam. We decided to visit New York – a city with millions of faces; a cultural melting pot. But even more, it is a city which has faced a historical turning point: 9/11. We are sure New York, with its people, companies and organizations can show us a lot of CSR aspects. And we are very thankful for every way of support to discover those.

MMA – Munich Marketing Academy – Germany

The Munich Marketing Academy has the most comprehensive marketing training program in Germany. It is as individual as its seminar guests. This is because in addition to having the most diverse marketing seminars, MMA participants are also offered unique training courses for product managers, innovation managers, social media managers and trend scouts. Beginners and professionals alike get their money's worth because the content is presented in an understandable way and taught exclusively by experts in their respective fields.

The most comprehensive education is the International MBA in Management & Communication over 3 semesters in cooperation with the Vienna University of Applied Sciences in Austria. From this course, the MBA14, the project “Business Ethics in New York” was developed.

FHWien – Austria

The FHWien of WKW is Austria's leading university of applied sciences for management and communication. Closely networked with domestic companies, FHWien offers WKW a holistic and practice-oriented academic education for currently more than 2,800 Bachelor and Master students.

Two thirds of our lecturers come directly from the business world. WKW's FHWien cooperates closely with companies from various sectors in numerous projects. Additionally, obligatory work placements for all students promote the practical relevance of the training.

Code of Conduct

To regulate a cooperative, fair and social interaction between the students and with companies that come into contact through the studies, the course of studies leads to a MBA 14 of the Munich Marketing Academy, a so-called Code of Conduct. The aim of this Code is to define and ensure a uniform and meaningful Procedure in cases of differences of opinion. Also the Code of Conduct will ensure, above all, a fairness with, and respect for, each other. This Code of Conduct has been approved by the students of the MBA 14 at the Munich Marketing Academy and approved by the study management.

Compliance with and procedures under this Code is desirable, but optional and is therefore subject to the voluntary decision of each participant. For all decisions and actions relevant within the framework of the study program, participants are to observe applicable laws and regulations at home and abroad. Each participant is liable for violations in detail.

One of the aims of the MBA program is to develop and consolidate leadership skills. Executives have a special focus and act as role models. As part of the international module, the students deal intensively with the following topics Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). For these reasons, a particular responsibility of each student is to focus on a respectful treatment of people and the environment. This should be done at all times, and be lived out.

When dealing with each other, i.e. between fellow students, lecturers and heads of studies as well as third parties (companies, service providers, the public), the practical principle of the golden rule applies: "Treat others the way you want them to treat you". The following principles are also available for concrete consideration:

  • Freedom of expression
  • Expressing criticism
  • Promoting ideas
  • Group dynamics
  • Objectives to be pursued
  • Mutual assistance
  • Distribution of tasks
  • Insults and discrimination
  • Prohibition of corruption
  • Working environment

Each participant in the programme has an appropriate level of education and an understanding of how to deal responsibly with our environment. We want to use this understanding to consciously act in a resource-conserving and sustainable way in the group as well as in detail.
