About the company
With its unique international portfolio of 34 different and complementary brands, the French consumer goods group L'Oréal, headquartered in Paris, has stood for beauty for over 100 years. L'Oréal employs 89,300 people worldwide. As a global leader in the beauty industry, L'Oréal is present in all distribution channels and a pioneer in sustainability in its field. L'Oréal's sustainability strategy "Sharing Beauty With All" was launched in 2013 and has defined ambitious targets to be achieved along the Group's entire value chain by 2020.
L'Oréal Sharing Beauty With All's sustainability program is based on four pillars:
- Sustainable innovations to reduce the environmental footprint of products and textures
- Sustainable production in order to reduce the ecological footprint of production sites and logistics centers
- Sustainable living, i.e. giving consumers the opportunity to choose sustainable consumption
- Sharing the success of the group with others: Society, communities, suppliers and employees
What was impressive?
We were greeted by Kristin Couch Fitzsimons, Sustainable Sourcing Senior Manager, and Baptiste Bordes, Senior Category Sourcing Manager - Glass & Aluminum, who answered our questions openly. Impressed by the strong commitment to sustainable change and the results achieved in just a few years (such as the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, improvements in responsible water management and the fight against deforestation in the supply chain) we also spoke to the employees. It became clear how much L'Oreal is committed to each and every one of them. We are all familiar with the company's brand slogan "Because you are worth it" from various commercials - after the interview you can describe it as "Because the employees are worth L'Oreal".
What did we learn?
At the end of the appointment we were still overwhelmed by the great will of the group to always go one step further. The Group is making an active contribution to tackle the major environmental and social challenges facing the world today. L'Oreal shows a possible way to act sustainably that promises success for all involved.
