About the company
LGT Bank is the world's largest private bank and asset management group, wholly owned and managed by an entrepreneurial family. For more than 80 years, the company has been owned by the Princely House of Liechtenstein, which is also one of its largest clients.
What was impressive?
We have thought about what a bank can do for sustainability. We were very surprised to see how LGT Bank set its UN Development Goals 16/17 in 2015 and what goals should be achieved by 2020. We are all aware that banks aim to maximize profits, but LGT Bank is different because their focus is not on short-term profit maximization, but rather on long-term profit maximization. In this way, LGT Bank strives to actively involve itself in social projects, thus giving back to society. It was a big surprise to learn that LGT Bank does not want to establish business relationships with every client/investor. Clients and investors are only considered if they share the same objectives as the bank (anti-corruption efforts, human rights/children's rights, screening for human violations and child labour, etc.).
What did we learn?
LGT promotes its employees with a comprehensive and diverse range of internal and external training and development programs in the areas of personality, social and leadership skills, as well as technical and methodological competence. With the Employee Volunteering Program (EVP), LGT enables its employees to volunteer for less privileged people or for the environment. Around five percent of all employees have taken part in various EVP activities over the past five years. In New York, employees of the Common Pantry organization regularly prepare food for the homeless and help with food distribution.
